Dr. Bakare: First, start with a Face wash and I don't advice you use a regular bar soap to wash your face because they have different PH level so you do not want your face to be too dry or too oily, look out for products that contain Glycolic Acid ; it resurfaces your skin, the Retina A which is a night cream it could be Retina A (Acne Prone Skin) or Retinol (Normal Skin type) and finally sunscreen. You can also use Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Lactic Acid and Vitamin C they are natural lighters. In the long run using Hydroquinone and when you stop it creates a rebound of hyper pigmentation but the natural lighteners can be used as alternatives for the long run.

Q: How do you treat acne and acne scars?

Dr Bakare: Acne leaves a spot behind called PIH (Post Inflammatory Hyper pigmentation) so to prevent PIH getting worse it is advised to use Vitamin C. How to deal with normal Acne; this depends on the age, Number one treatment that is prescribed are contraceptives most frequently Dianette which is known for curing Acne but not a contraceptive appeal.
